Research and Teaching Concept

The chair's research and teaching activities are based on the idea that management accounting supports the management in controlling the operating and financial processes by a coordinated application of the instruments of accounting.

Fundamentally, there are two objectives addressed:

  1. Management accounting for decision-making is concerned with the provision of information to support the management in achieving the company's objectives and, where appropriate, in maximizing of shareholder value.

  2. Behavioral accounting investigates the influence that instruments of management accounting have on delegated decisions. Thus, an important issue is how these instruments should be designed and coordinated to align the employees' behavior with the company's objectives and to avoid dysfunctional behavior.

Both research and teaching activities deal with the analysis of instruments of management accounting and their implementation from a decision-making and behavioral point of view, focussing on financial implications in the context of a value based and risk management.
