The consecutive master’s degree programme “Finance, Accounting, and Taxes” is aimed at students who hold a degree in business administration with a relevant area of specialization. For example, our programme offers an ideal opportunity for further development if you would like to gain deeper insights in the following areas:

  • Electronic finance and digital markets

  • Finance and controlling

  • Finance

  • National and international taxation

  • National and international accounting

  • Risk management

  • Business analysis

  • Auditing

In two years, our specialized master’s programme will prepare you for a variety of interesting and challenging occupations in the following areas:

  • Companies in the financial sector (e.g., banks and insurance companies), management consulting, accounting, and tax consulting

  • Within a company, across various departments such as accounting, tax, auditing, planning, and risk management

In addition, the degree can also provide an ideal start to a career in academia, such as advancing to doctoral studies either domestically or abroad.

  • The master of science (M.Sc.) degree programme is designed to be completed over the course of four semesters for a total of 120 credits. The programme is divided into three main areas: core requirements, specialization, and electives. One must also complete a project seminar, a methods module, and a master’s thesis.

    The foundation for all courses is taught within the following mandatory modules:

    • Finance and controlling

    • Finance

    • Financial Reporting (IFRS)
    • Corporate taxation

    Within the specialization component, you have the opportunity to focus on your area of interest from five different curriculum areas. In addition to the mandatory modules, electives offer the opportunity to explore and participate in other business and economic courses to further develop and complement your own area of expertise.     • Intensive support within small groups in a welcoming environment (admission of around 50 students per year)

    • Extensive course offerings to select from for all of the three programme areas: electives, areas of specialization, and methods

    • Practical orientation (e.g., presentations, thesis paper, field trips, project seminars, and cooperations with companies)

    • International perspective with courses offered in English

    • Modern infrastructure (e.g., a recently constructed learning centre, e-learning, and well-equipped lecture rooms)

    • Most of the economic science institutes and the library are located in the “Oeconomicum,” a modern building located centrally on the main campus

    Starting in the 2016/17 winter semester, the University of Göttingen Faculty of Business and Economics offers a double degree programme with the Ghent University Faculty for Economics and Business Administration (in Belgium). Within four semesters, well-qualified students can complete both a MSc degree in finance, accounting, and taxes at the University of Göttingen, as well as a parallel MSc degree in business economics (with a focus on corporate finance or accountancy) at Ghent University: More Information

    Traditionally, the skill sets acquired by the master's programme in finance, accounting, and taxes are among those most frequently desired by business graduates. Moreover, they offer excellent career opportunities for graduates who seek challenging and rewarding careers in consulting and auditing companies, financial institutions, strategy, and policy units of large corporations, management bodies of small and mid-size entities, and government and organizations. In addition, entrepreneurial candidates may have the necessary knowledge base to start a business.

    Please note that the application deadline (and timeframe for which applications are accepted) depends on the semester for which you would like to begin your studies. The dates below refer to the timeframe for which applications will be accepted.

    • Winter Semester from 1st April to 15th May

    • Summer Semester from 1st October to 15th November
