Driving instructions
The Faculty of Physics is located on the northern Campus of Göttingen University, at Friedrich-Hund-Platz 1. You will find the Institut für Astrophysik on level F04 within the building.
By car
Göttingen lies at the Autobahn A7 (Hannover-Kassel). Take the exit 72 (Göttingen Nord) direction Göttingen-Holtensen/ Göttingen-Weende/ Braunlage/B27 and follow the road past the intersection. Turn right just before you drive under a bridge to get to the Robert-Koch-Straße, then turn left. After crossing the bridge, turn right into the Goldschmidtstraße. You will see the faculty building to your left.By plane
The closest airports to Göttingen with European and International travel connections are Hannover Airport (HAJ) and Frankfurt (Main) Airport (FRA).From Hannover Airport take the metro (S-Bahn) to Hannover station (Hauptbahnhof) and then the InterCityExpress to Göttingen (total travel time about 1 hour). Direct connections via InterCityExpress exist from Frankfurt (Main) Airport to Göttingen (travel time 2 hours).
By train/ bus
You can reach Göttingen directly with the ICE (high-speed train) from the directions Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Munich. To find a connection, visit the website of the German railway company Deutschen Bahn AG.From Göttingen main station, you can either take a taxi (for about 10 Euro), or a bus to the northern Campus at some 3 kilometres outside the city centre. Bus lines 21/ 22 (direction Nikolausberg), and 23 (direction Faßberg) directly connect the main station/ ZOB with the northern Campus. Get off at bus stopp "Tammannstrasse". Driving time is 13 minutes. Departure times are available from the bus schedule.
From the bus stopp you can already see the faculty building (recognizable by the white dome of the astrophysics) which is in about 5 minutes walking distance. For access to the building use the main entrance at Tammannstraße/ Friedrich-Hund-Platz.
