Profile

Lorenzo Dell’Oso is an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georg August University of Göttingen. After receiving his Ph.D. in Italian Studies from the University of Notre Dame (2020), he held post-doctoral positions at the University of Notre Dame (2020-2021) and Trinity College Dublin (2021-2022). He holds a Presidential Fellowship for Humanities (2015-2020), an IRC Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021), and a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship (2022). His research focuses are Dante Studies (particularly, the poet’s intellectual formation in Florence, the Vita nova and the Convivio), and the relationship between medieval Italian literature and the history of medieval thought (particularly, the role of the Scholastics and the oral disputationes on the formation of Medieval Italian authors, from Cavalcanti to Boccaccio). He has published articles and essays in international journals (Italian Studies, Dante Studies, L’Alighieri, Studi di filologia italiana and others) and volumes in Italian and English (Salerno Editrice, Notre Dame University Press). He is currently working on his first monograph, entitled The Poet and the ‘Schools of the Religious Orders’: Dante’s ‘Scholastic’ Formation in Florence (1290-1302).
