Fundamentals of Equal Opportunities Policy and Work
The equal opportunities policy and work of the University of Göttingen is based on legal requirements, internal university regulations and recommendations. At the same time, equal opportunities in the sense of a self-commitment is integrated into the development of the profile and the strategy of the university, e.g. in the mission statement, in the context of the excellence strategy, in development planning and in the university's concept for early career researchers.
Since 2007, the university's equal opportunities policy and work has received far-reaching impetus from the institutional strategy within the Excellence Initiative, from the Gender Equality Concept within the Programme for Female Professors and from the Statement on Research-Oriented Gender Equality Standards of the DFG.
The gender equality framework plan and the gender equality plans of the faculties, the central institutions and the central administration are well established planning and control instruments and they are continuously evaluated and updated. In addition, equality goals and measures have been included in the university's target agreements with the state of Lower Saxony and anchored in the performance-oriented allocation of funds at federal state level.
In order to achieve synergy effects and promote quality development and professionalisation at all levels, centralised gender equality programmes and measures are coordinated and linked with decentralised ones. Gender equality goals and measures are designed specifically for each scientific field and institution and differentiated according to qualification levels. In order to meet the requirements of the different starting situations and challenges of the twelve faculties and other university institutions, gender equality programmes and measures are tailor-made and are being continuously adapted to changing framework conditions.
