The SMNG mourns the loss of Rebekka Habermas, who passed away on 21 December. It is with great gratitude that we look back on the years of research and teaching together. She will be sorely missed in our midst.

The academic memorial service for Prof Dr Rebekka Habermas will take place on 24 April 2024 from 15.15 to 17.00 in the Paulinerkirche, Papendiek 14, 37073 Göttingen. All those who feel connected to her are cordially invited.

Current Events


  • Workshop: Guelphs in the Province of Hanover

    The Working Group on the History of the 19th and 20th Centuries of the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen and the Institute for Regional Historical Research are jointly organising a workshop on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Hanover: The Guelphs in the Province of Hanover: The so-called preliminary vote on the separation of the Province of Hanover in 1924 and the German Hanoverian Party. The workshop will take place on 17 May 2024 at the Conference and Event Centre Alte Mensa, Adam-von-Trott-Saal, Wilhelmsplatz 3, 37073 Göttingen. You can find the programme here.
