Requirements

The doctoral regulations of the Faculty of Law require the passing of the First State Examination in Law with at least the grade "vollbefriedigend". Exemption from this requirement is only granted in well-founded exceptional cases. In such cases, the chair makes acceptance as a doctoral candidate dependent on an examination result in the "upper" range of "satisfactory" (at least 8 points) as well as on successful completion of a seminar organized by the chair with a "good" result (at least 13 points).

Applicants should have studied law at the University of Göttingen for at least two semesters.

  • The independent search for a thesis topic is part of the applicant's qualification. Of course, the "thought of" topics will be checked for their suitability in a personal interview and modified if it is necessary.

  • Only doctoral projects that fall within the research interests of the chair can be supervised. These include the entire range of substantive and formal criminal law, as well as medical law and bioethics, and even questions of legal theory and legal philosophy.

  • Doctoral applications should be made in writing, state the chosen topic of work, and outline it briefly in the form of a synopsis (see above), include a meaningful academic / professional curriculum vitae, the results of the state law examinations as well as evidence of the credits acquired during studies.

  • The further procedure will be clarified in a personal interview.
