Registration: Participants are expected to register via the registration form below before 18 November 2024. Suggested readings and abstracts of all participants’ research abstracts will be circulated one week before the workshop.

The workshop with CeMig guest Medea Badashvili is designed to initiate exchange about current research perspectives at the intersection of Migration and Gender Studies. Medea Badashvili heads the Master Program in Gender Studies at Tbilisi State University, Georgia and is currently doing research on the life trajectories of Ukrainian refugees in Germany and Georgia, including gender and generational perspectives.
She will open the workshop by sharing her own research experiences from her recent fieldwork. Her presentation will be followed by the opportunity for participants to presenting their own ongoing work on subjects related to migration and gender. The workshop’s idea is to initiate exchange between researchers in the early stages of their careers to discuss their research findings, methodological questions or analytical challenges. It addresses empirically working researchers from various disciplines (Social and Cultural Anthropology, Political Sciences, Sociology, Law, History…) at all career stages (Master students, doctoral or postdoctoral researchers).
To help creating an interactive forum, participants are asked to prepare short presentations (3-5 mins) about their own research.
About Medea Badashvili:
Medea Badashvili is DAAD fellow at CeMig from July to November 2024. She serves as an Associate Professor at Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia, where she also heads the Master Program in Gender Studies. Holding a PhD in Human Geography, BA and MA in Socio-Economic and Political Geography, her research interests encompass a wide array of topics, including labor migration, refugee flows, gender equality, domestic violence, women’s economic and political empowerment. Her extensive teaching portfolio covers the courses on gender and migration, feminist theory, global health politics, agency, gender in Eastern European and post-soviet countries and many others. During her DAAD fellowship she is conducting a comparative study on the reception of Ukrainian refugees who fled the Russian war of aggression in Germany and Georgia.
Public talk by Medea Badashvili:
In her public talk "Russia's Invasion of Ukraine: The Human Cost, Refugee Crisis, and Migration Challenges (Case Study: Germany)" at the same day (25.11.2024, 16:15-17:45 CET) Medea Badashvili will present her current research as well as preliminary findings.
