The Universities of Göttingen and Talca sign new cooperation agreement

The University is expanding its cooperation with Chile: University President Prof. Dr. Ulrike Beisiegel and her Chilean colleague, the rector of the Universidad de Talca, Prof. Dr. Alvaro Rojas Marín, signed a "letter of agreement" for joint PhD program. The doctoral program "Joint PhD Program in Agricultural Economics (JPPAE)" was built over the past three years, the agreement now regulates the admission and evaluation procedures. JPPAE is financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

"The agricultural sector in Latin America, especially in Chile, Brazil and Argentina are very dynamic sectors that offer a number of interesting questions for agricultural economic analysis," said Dr. Sebastian Lakner, coordinator of the PhD program. The variety of topics ranging from business issues such as the organization of retail chains on the challenges of international trade policy, to problems such as the conservation of biodiversity under climate change conditions.

"By expanding our cooperation focus on research, we can work together with colleagues in Talca on joint projects and publications. The new offering will strengthen the site Talca scientifically in the long term, "said Prof. Dr. Stephan von Cramon-Taubadel, owner of Göttingen Department of Agricultural Policy and spokesman of the doctoral program. In the training of master's students, the two universities working together successfully since 2002: a total of currently 84 master's graduates from across Latin America have completed the joint program "International Agribusiness and Rural Development (IARD)."
