Bachelor Degree Programmes
Mono-Bachelor
As part of our Mono-Bachelor’s programme, you study towards a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, for which the total of 180 credits to be earned are spread across three main areas:
-
132 credits are dedicated to the subject-specific disciplines. This means that you spend a considerable amount of time studying the specific content of your chosen field of study. The specific modules and courses that you have to take are regulated in the respective examination and study regulations, although there may be optional courses available.
-
Further 36 credits are earned in the professionalisation area. This offers the opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge beyond the purely subject-specific area and to prepare for your professional future. Here too, the exact requirements and possible options are described in detail in the examination and study regulations.
-
The remaining 12 credits are reserved for the Bachelor’s thesis, in which you demonstrate your skills and carry out an independent academic project.
The faculty currently offers three Mono-Bachelor’s degree programmes, which are unique in that they are only offered in this form at the University of Göttingen in Lower Saxony:
A visual overview of the structure of the three Mono-Bachelor’s degree programmes at our faculty can be found here. Please refer to the examination and study regulations of the respective subject for the exact study structure, which you can access via the above links in the right-hand column under “structure” and then “regulations and module directory” at the bottom.

Two-Subject-Bachelor
The two-subject Bachelor’s programme offers you the opportunity to study two subjects of your choice equally. You can choose any subject from the faculty and combine them with each other. The only exception is that it is not possible to combine East Asian Studies/Chinese as a Foreign Language with East Asian Studies/Modern China. You also have the option of choosing to combine subjects from other faculties (e.g. Political Science, Law, Economics or Computer Science) in order to pursue your interests even further.
In order to obtain the “Bachelor of Arts” (B.A.) degree, you have to earn a total of 180 credits, which are divided into three main areas:
- 132 credits are dedicated to subject-specific disciplines, with 66 credits allocated to each of your chosen subjects. The exact requirements and modules for acquiring these credits are set out in the respective examination and study regulations, although there may be optional courses available.
-
Further 36 credits are earned in the professionalisation area. This enables you to expand your skills beyond purely subject-specific boundaries. Within this area, you have the option of choosing one of four profiles, depending on your individual interests and professional goals:
Subject-Specific ProfileIn this profile, one of the two subjects studies is extended by a further 18 credits. It is therefore possible to specialise in one of the two subjects. The examination and study regulations of the relevant subject contain the specifications as to which modules are required for this. The remaining 18 credits are acquired through courses in the area of key competences. This profile is designed to prepare students for a non-academic career. Modules totalling 18 credits can be taken either from one of the two subjects studies or even from another subject. The respective examination and study regulations regulate the courses offered in this profile. The remaining 18 credits are acquired through courses in the area of key competences.Students must be explicitly enrolled for this profile, i.e. they must have already decided on it before starting their studies. 26 of the 36 credits in this profile are pre-planned through two internships, one educational science module and two didactic modules. The remaining 10 credits are acquired through courses in the area of key competences. The teacher training profile prepares students for the subsequent Master of Education, which is necessary to work as a teacher at a grammar school. There are no regulations for this profile that specify the completion of certain modules. In the studium generale, modules totalling 36 credits can be freely selected from the permitted range.
- The remaining 12 credits are dedicated to the Bachelor’s thesis, which is written in one of your two chosen subjects and provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate your research skills.
