Recognition of courses from other German universities

The process of recognising courses from other German universities is illustrated in the graph linked here.

Which courses can be recognized?

Courses from the University of Göttingen: Courses (modules) that you have completed within a degree programme at the University of Göttingen can be credited according to the module number if the module can also be selected in the 'new' degree programme. In this case, failed modules will be counted as failed attempts. For the recognition of courses from other faculties, please contact the Student Advisory Service.

Courses from other German universities: All completed modules that are relevant to your new degree programme or are similar to an existing module can be examined as part of a credit transfer application.

Usually, bachelor's students can only receive credit for bachelor's courses and master's students can only receive credit for master's courses.

Have my courses already been recognized?

Please check in FlexStat if your course has already been recognized before making a request. If this is the case, you do not need to submit an application for recognition.

Pathway in FlexStat: Anerkennungen => Anerkannte Leistungen (nach ausländischer Universität) => Land wählen => Universität wählen => Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät wählen

If the module you require has already been recognised in your programme in accordance with your examination regulations and is no more than five years old, please contact the Faculty's Examinations Office directly. The module will be recognised immediately on presentation of your Transcript of Records.

How to make a request for course recognition?

Please complete the application form (Request for Course Recognition (Inland)) in full. Be sure to include all details, especially the name of the module and, if applicable, the module number.

Please attach the following documents to the application and then create one PDF file for each application including the attachments:

  • Module description (syllabus): description of the content of the course, bibliography if applicable, course level (Bachelor, Master, etc.) and scope of work (credits/ECTS) must be evident

In addition, please send us as a separate file:

  • Certification that you still have the right to take examinations ("Prüfungsanspruch besteht"), for example a Certificate of Good Standing ("Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung") from your previous university

  • Current and official proof of performance

Please note that the module description must be in German or English.

Where can I deliver my request?

Please send us the applications and module descriptions as one PDF file per application by email. In addition to the application forms, we also need your transcripts and your Certificate of Good Standing (Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung, see above). These may need to be sent in the original.

Please note that only complete documents - one PDF file including module description per application - will be processed.

How is the application reviewed?

The Student Advisory Service will check your documents and forward them to the responsible persons for the according degree programmes. Please note that the entire process can take at least eight weeks.

How do I receive the result of the application review?

Case 1: Your request is accepted

The Examinations Office will inform you by e-mail that your recognition has been entered in FlexNow. Your contact persons in the Examination Office are Ms Scheede and Ms Fedry (please see Team Examination Office).

Case 2: Your request is denied

The Student Advisory Service will inform you by e-mail that your request has been denied. The student advisors will be happy to advise you if you have any further questions.
