The mission of the Georg-August University School of Science is to promote excellence by structured training and supervision of doctoral students in mathematics, natural and life sciences and support them in the development of scientific networks in an international environment on the Göttingen Campus and beyond. Our Mission
The graduate school coordinates and supports its doctoral programs in close collaboration with the participating university faculties and campus partners, safeguarding the quality of the doctorate in mathematics and natural sciences (see Quality Assurance) and preparing the doctoral candidates for a successful career inside or outside of academia.
To fulfill this mission, internationally renowned faculty members take a joint responsibility for doctoral supervision in thesis advisory committees. While the focus of the PhD is on the individual research project, the doctoral research is accompanied by a structured and comprehensive qualification program offered by GAUSS together with its partners, which enables the doctoral students to acquire state-of-the art methodological skills tailored to their scientific interest and receive additional training in professional/transferable skills. Together with central service facilities on campus, the graduate school provides special services for the integration of international students. Moreover, the GAUSS Career Service extends its support of career advice, individual counselling and networking into the postdoc phase and stays in touch with alumni sharing their experience.
