Abstract Diversity has become a desirable ideal in late modernity. Neither companies nor fire departments nor universities nor trade unions nor daycare centres can escape this ‘megatrend’. However, the question arises as to what is actually meant by diversity and how it is implemented. This handbook has two goals: Firstly, it aims to provide an overview of theoretical positions on diversity in organisations, linking perspectives from organisational and diversity research. Secondly, it provides concrete insights into the practice of diversity in organisations in a wide range of fields—from business, health, education, social work, politics and security to the media, religion and sports.
