Human Geography
The department of Human Geography focuses on (1) human interactions to the environment, and (2) on human activities and their implications on spatial structures, patterns and representations. Our research is problem-oriented, guided by theory and empirically substantiated. The main topics are geographic research on risk, vulnerability and resilience as well as research themes related to human/political ecology. An additional focal point of research is the geography of leisure and tourism. Transdisciplinarity and application–oriented research is of great importance to us. We strongly encourage our students to take an active part in our research. The main regions of study are South Asia, Southeast Asia and Germany.
