Damien Janos obtained his BA (Honors) from McGill University (2001), his Masters from Oxford University (2002), and his PhD from McGill University (2009).
His PhD dissertation, entitled “Intellection, Substance, and Motion in al-Fārābī’s Cosmology,” focused on the interrelatedness of the sciences in the metaphysics and cosmology of the Arabic philosopher al-Fārābī (d. 950 CE). His research project at EDRIS dealt with epistemology and the philosophical sciences in the tafsīr tradition.
From 2010-2013, Dr. Damien Janos was a postdoctoral researcher at the Courant Research Centre EDRIS at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. He left EDRIS for the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin.
