As a graduate school with the aim of actively contributing to diversity orientation at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, the GGG is part of the existing diversity-related networks. As part of the development and implementation of the diversity concept, the GGG has reflected on and intensified many of its collaborations that serve mutual professional exchange as well as institutional cooperation. In this way, competences are bundled and a larger circle of people is reached.
Cooperation is particularly close within the framework of the Göttingen Model of Interdisciplinary Graduate Schools (GIGS):
Cooperation with the other three Göttingen graduate schools GSGG, GAUSS and GFA within the framework of the Göttingen Model of Interdisciplinary Graduate Schools (GIGS) is very close in the sense of a routine exchange oriented towards the focus of the respective graduate school. As a result, the expertise of the other three graduate schools on diversity-relevant topics, especially on accessibility and internationalisation, has been incorporated into the diversity concept. Likewise, the GGG carries the findings from this development process back to the other graduate schools.
The GGG is in contact with the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Office. Through its participation in the series of events "Alle gleich anders!? Diversity in Theory and Practice", the GGG brings in the concerns of doctoral students and thus contributes to the visibility of this group that often sits "between the chairs".
The auditing process of the Stifterverband "Shaping Diversity", which is coordinated by the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Office, offers a forum for discussion with other actors working on diversity at the university, for jointly initiating new needs-oriented projects and measures, and for continuously developing the university's own concepts and measures.
Since 2018, for example, experiences and best practice examples of equality and diversity measures from various organisational units - such as University Sports, SUB, ZESS, Human Resources Development, GGG and others - have been exchanged in order to learn from each other and to reflect on diversity-oriented organisational development across the university. For this purpose, a working group was founded as part of the diversity audit on the initiative of the GGG, which is to be continued as a forum beyond the audit. The participating institutions receive suggestions here for the further development of their respective concepts and measures and at the same time inspire the other areas through the previous findings and measures.
The representatives for disabled persons and the Representative for students with disabilities or chronic diseases of the Department of Studies and Teaching offer basic support for students and employees with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses. As part of the development of the Diversity Concept, the GGG established cooperation with these and, among other things, worked together with these institutions/persons in the Diversity Audit WG to design and set up an "Inclusion Fund for Accessibility", which is laid out in the Inclusion Agreement that came into force in May 2018.
One result of this collaboration is a successful application jointly submitted in 2018 to the Gender Equality and Innovation Fund (GIF) to promote the inclusion of female doctoral students. The aim of the pilot project is to strengthen the exchange on the needs of women with disabilities/chronic illnesses in the doctoral phase, to identify barriers but also conditions for success, to initiate initial structurally effective measures (networking) and to identify potential for further inclusion. The proposed project has an innovative character, as there are only a few projects nationwide that focus on supporting doctoral researchers with disabilities/chronic illnesses and none of these projects, according to our research, focus on female doctoral researchers.
The cooperations strengthen the implementation and concretisation of the diversity strategy of the university and are integrated into the diversity audit of the Stifterverband. The GGG exchanges information intensively with the early career support at the faculties, the faculties of social sciences, the Dept. Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and the HR Development in order to avoid duplicate structures in the promotion of good scientific practice, in qualification and support measures as well as in the quality assurance of doctoral studies and to identify any gaps at an early stage.
