Course Contents M.A. program Cultural Musicology
In the M.A. program, you deal with both the cultural analysis of music and the musical analysis of culture. We critically inquire into processes of cultural transference and musical and cultural dynamics; in this, the in-depth study of specific musical genres, regions or transnational flows as well as musical analysis stand central. Particular emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches, which help you acquire skills in the application of methods relevant to cultural studies; these complement your training in reflecting critically on musics and how, in various historical and cultural contexts, they have played a role in cultural dynamics. An integrated internship allows you to gain experience in the practical application of your academic training and to significantly improve your employability prior to graduation.
Your Master's thesis may be prepared in connection with an individual field research project, which allows you to gain hands-on research experience further sharpening your academic profile.
