Abstract:
Navigating career choices can be overwhelming, but what if you could approach it as a design challenge? Based on the principles of Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, this interactive workshop empowers university students with design thinking tools to explore career paths, prototype options, and take actionable steps toward a fulfilling professional journey.
Objectives:
- Introduce design thinking as a problem-solving framework for career planning.
- Help students reframe career challenges and explore multiple pathways.
- Provide tools for ideation, prototyping, and testing career options.
- Encourage an iterative mindset for continuous learning and adaptation.
Content:
1. Introduction to Design Thinking for Careers
2. Reframing Career Challenges and Overcoming Myths
3. Generating Multiple Career Path Ideas
4. Prototyping and Testing Career Options
5. Decision-Making and Taking Action
Methods:
- Interactive discussions and self-reflection exercises
- Guided career mind-mapping and brainstorming activities
- Hands-on prototyping exercises (informational interviews, small experiments)
- Practical tools and templates for future career exploration
This workshop is designed to be engaging, practical, and action-oriented, helping students take charge of their careers with creativity and confidence.
