C6 Animal Welfare and Food Systems
SP C6 explores farm animal welfare as an important aspect of societal interactions and sustainable food systems, focusing on the German dairy and pork sector. Our study will employ experimental and behavioral economic methods to investigate the role of trust along the food supply chain, and the effectiveness of information provision in enhancing farm animal welfare. In addition, we aim to assess the economic and animal welfare implications of EU regulations on export markets and quantities, based on secondary data. Overall, our study will contribute to developing strategies on enhancing farm animal welfare as part of a sustainable food system.

- Does farm animal welfare regulation facilitate better aggregate animal welfare?

Doctoral researcher of the first cohort:
Since C6 has become part of the RTG as a new subproject in 2023, there is no first cohort doctoral student. With for start of the second cohort on 1 September 2024, one doctoral student will join the RTG.
