Objective | Productivity and complexity – Linking two fundamental characteristics of trees and forests |
Content | Structurally complex forests are predicted to be better adapted to climate change and other future challenges compared to homogeneous monocultures. Several studies also found, that structural heterogeneity is positively related to stand level productivity. During my PhDI will further investigate the structural complexity – productivity relationship, how it translates from tree to stand level, how different silviculture approaches exert their influence and whether there are differences between mixed and pure stands. To do so, I will use fractal analysis in combination with three-dimensional mobile laser scanning. |
