Installation of eduroam
To set up eduroam, we recommend using the configuration wizard (CAT tool) instead of a manual configuration. The CAT tool is provided by the GÉANT Association, to which DFN-Verein also belongs. It is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, iOS and Android. To set up eduroam, select your operating system from the list below and follow the step-by-step instructions.

1. Install and launch the app eduroamCAT.
*eduroamCAT is an app from the Google Play Store, provided by the "GÉANT Association". Alternatively, it is possible to download the APK directly from DFN.
2. After you have installed the "eduroamCAT App", open the app and select the eduroam profile of your institute. Employees and students of the University of Göttingen please select University of Göttingen. Users with a GWDG account please select GWDG Göttingen. If a separate profile file has been set up for your institution on the "GÉANT Association" page, use it.
If the location service is activated in your phone and you are currently in Göttingen, the University of Göttingen and the GWDG Göttingen, among others, should be displayed on the app's home page under "Configurations in the area" or "Konfigurationen in der Umgebung". Alternatively, you can enter the University of Göttingen or GWDG Göttingen in the app on the start page via "Manual search" and have the search performed. Users with a GWDG account should then select GWDG Göttingen. A summary of the configuration file now appears. To install, press the "Install" button.
3. Confirm with "Yes" that you want to install the profile.
4. Use your login name according to the table and then click "Install".
5. Finally, the device settings for the installed profile are displayed.
1st step
- Download the configuration wizard here.
- Make the downloaded file executable by right-clicking on it and selecting Properties.
- Open the Access Rights tab and check the "Run file as program" box.
- Make sure that under "Settings of files" the behavior when executing files is set correctly.
2nd step
- Start the wizard with a double click.
- Follow the instructions and use your login name according to the table.
- After completing the wizard, NetworkManager will automatically connect you to eduroam if it is available.
If NetworkManager is not installed, the wizard creates a wpa_supplicant configuration file in the .eduroam subdirectory in your home directory instead. For more information about the configuration of wpa_supplicant for eduroam, see the article wpa_supplicant.
