WP5 – Bumblebee population density
Within the scope of the project, the influence of different agricultural measures on bumblebees will be tested by means of population genetics. Whole-genome sequencing with Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms will be performed to examine not only genetic diversity of bumblebees but also to estimate the effective population size and colony density. The results will be compared pre- and post-honeybee density increase to account for the possible negative feedback of honeybees on bumblebee populations.

Our results could serve as a basis for the design of measures protecting wild bee populations with regards to varying levels of agricultural intensity.
