AMCIS Mini Track: Sharing for Environmental Sustainability - 23.01.2020
For the American Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) 2020, Dr. Benedikt Brendel as well as three associated members of the SMRG, Dr. Ilja Nastjuk, Dr. Mauricio Marrone, Prof. Dr. Simon Trang, and Dr. Friedrich Chasin (University of Münster) are hosting a Mini-Track about Sharing for Environmental Sustainability. The Mini-Track is part of the main track, Green IS and Sustainability. The conference will take place in August 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Research Visit at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA - 01.09.2019
Dr. Benedikt Brendel traveled to the USA to exchange research, projects, and scientific work with professors and staff of the Kelly School of Business, Indiana University. He also presented his current research on Green IS in Mobility. In August, Sascha Lichtenberg also took the opportunity to visit him and exchange research ideas with scholars. In particular, both met with AIS President Alan Dennis, who holds the Chair for Information Systems and would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his hospitality and great exchange.

New project about mobility needs of recently immigrated people - 15.08.2019
Oftentimes, people that recently immigrated to Germany are accommodated decentrally in rural regions. Mobility opportunities in these regions are often limited and, above all, difficult for newcomers to understand. Within the scope of our project MAZ, we address this problem, together with the County of Northeim, by introducing a mobile application. This app simplifies access to mobility for newly immigrated people by a simple application design and language translation. Additionally, it offers a connection to voluntary helpers and authorities. Annual Alumni-Event of the Chair - 19.07.2019
Last Friday the annual alumni event of the chair took place. Prof. Kolbe used this opportunity to invite and meet all former and current Ph.D. students of the IM Chair. In a welcoming presentation, Prof. Kolbe presented the current research and projects and other activities that had happened since the last alumni event. Afterward, the university's cast collection of antique sculptures was visited, and the evening was used for networking and exchanging ideas.

Our SMRG-members Sascha, Stephan, and Bernd went to the 11th Wissenschaftsforum Mobilität 2019 at the University Duisburg-Essen. They presented their research contributions on the topics “How autonomous flight taxis will change today's mobility concepts - A trend research based on guided expert interviews” and “On the design of chatbots to promote sustainable mobility behavior: a literature-based derivation of design principles.”
The IM-Team wins 4th place at the 26th Georgia-Augusta-Indoor-Cup - 18.05.2019
Our team reached the fourth place at the faculty's annual soccer tournament with a lot of effort and fun. "Although we didn't practice, we were better than ever," Prof. Kolbe reported proudly on the success of his team.
EC-RIDER – Explainable AI Methods for Human Centric RIDEshaRing - 01.03.2019
We are happy to announce that the VolkswagenStiftung has granted the planning and preparation phase of the project EC-Rider's full proposal. Together with an interdisciplinary and international consortium of five universities, the Smart Mobility Research Group forms a team to explore research issues and approaches in the area of “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the society of the future.” In particular, the project EC-RIDER studies and creates novel advanced and explainable Artificial Intelligence methods for solving problems in shared urban mobility and validating them on selected ride- or vehicle-sharing scenarios. International collaboration project about road safety systems - 20.02.2019
We are part of the “Cooperative Connected Intelligent Vehicles for Safe and Efficient Road Transport (COSAFE)”- project funded by the European Union. This project proposes an innovative solution for cooperative, connected intelligent vehicles using vehicular communication technology to address road transport challenges and improve road safety and efficiency. New project for a better diagnosis system of diabetes and hypertension in eSwatini, Africa - 15.02.2019
Diabetes and hypertension have developed into a significant global burden, especially in low and middle-income countries. The WHO-PEN@Scale project supports the idea of community-based care to relieve overburdened hospitals and increase the number of diagnosed and treated people. For more information click here.
New project for a sustainable Pedelec-Sharing-System - 01.02.2019
Pedelecs are an attractive and, at the same time, environmentally friendly alternative to cars to cover long distances quickly and without great effort. On January 1st, our project, in cooperation with local partners, has started to develop a sustainable information system that aims to achieve a permanent significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions concerning commuting and business trips. New Project with the Port of Hamburg - 20.01.2019
On January 1, the SMRG will start the “Flexibilitätsmanagement und Regelenergiebereitstellung von Schwerlastfahrzeugen im Hafen (FRESH)”- project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The project is a joint project together with HHLA Container-Terminal Altenwerder GmbH, Next Kraftwerke GmbH, and OFFIS e.V. The main objective of the project for the research group is an investigation of the economic efficiency for battery capacity bundling in a closed transportation system. Presentations of Bachelor Seminar Projects – 23.10.2018
This week, twenty participants of our bachelor seminar have successfully presented their projects on current topics in information management. This semester’s projects focused on chatbots, office robots, and smart connected mobility services and were carried out in collaboration with Roland Berger, MHP, and Bosch. For their projects, the students used innovative technologies like the robot Pepper by Softbank and DialogFlow by Google. Their projects contributed to design science research; therefore, the students could apply and experience the research paradigm themselves. If you are interested in doing a project like this yourself, we offer the bachelor Seminar each semester. The registration deadline for the seminar in WiSe 18/19 is on the 15th of December. Aligning with new research opportunities within the context of future mobility – The “new” Smart Mobility Research Group – 01.06.2018
Due to the growing pervasiveness of digital innovation in sustainable and intelligent solutions in the mobility context, we increasingly encounter and anticipate digital technologies (e.g., Machine Learning, Mobile Applications, and Digital Platforms) within our research and practice projects. In order to find a stronger resemblance to our research activities, we decided to rename our research group to “Smart Mobility Research Group.” We will increasingly incorporate and evaluate digital technologies' impacts in our research contexts while maintaining a green vision and striving towards sustainable and smart mobility solutions.
