  • 4th Göttingen Symposium on Medical Law, 24th May 2019
  • On May 24, 2019, the 4th Göttingen Symposium took place in the old SUB/Paulinerkirche on the topic of „Zwischen Kindeswunsch und Kindeswohl. Rechtliche und ethische Herausforderungen der Kinderwunschmedizin“ (“Between the desire to have a child and the best interests of the child. Legal and ethical challenges of fertility medicine”) took place.
Further information can be found in the flyer.

  • 3rd Göttingen Symposium on Medical Law, 27th October 2017
  • The symposium dealt with the topic of „Medizinische Indikation und ärztliche Verantwortung" (“Medical indication and medical responsibility”). In addition to consent as an expression of patient autonomy, indication is also regarded as a “core element of medical legitimacy” (Adolf Laufs). As such, it represents an essential element of medical responsibility. But what exactly does “medical indication” mean? How does it relate to patient autonomy? What significance does it (still) have in the face of desired medicine and increasing economization in the healthcare system? These questions were discussed together with experts from the fields of philosophy, medical ethics, law and medicine.

  • 2nd Göttingen Symposium on Medical Law, 24th June 2016
  • With the 2nd Göttingen Symposium on Medical Law, the Center for Medical Law addressed the specialist audience and the interested public with current legal and medical-ethical questions regarding the handling of human corpses. Important attempts at clarification include the so-called Stuttgart Recommendations of the German Medical Association published in 2003, which were primarily formulated for medically relevant specimens, and ten years later the regulations drawn up by the German Museums Association in an international context, e.g. for the repatriation of human remains of indigenous peoples. Most recently, various media activities and legislative processes have reignited the already ever-present discussion about the dead human body of all ages; it has been presented in this symposium from different perspectives and expertly continued.
