Dr. Nicola Ialongo
Nicola Ialongo is a prehistoric archaeologist specialized in the Bronze Age of Europe. His past research addressed regional-scale social systems in Mainland Italy and Sardinia, with a specific focus on Late Bronze Age sanctuaries.
His research currently addresses the exchange economy of Europe in the 2nd millennium BC, with a particular focus on the study of weight systems, weight-regulated objects and pre-coinage monetary devices.
Research Interests
· Bronze Age sanctuaries and ritual, and connections with society and economy
· Bronze age hoards, in connection with production, exchange economy and social structure
· Relative chronology of Bronze Age Italy and the Western Mediterranean
· Prehistoric Sardinia and ancient Mediterranean: definition of local chronologies and correlation with other Mediterranean sequences; relations between Sardinia, Phoenicians and the Italian peninsula between the end of the Bronze Age and the Beginning of the Iron Agesanctuaries; landscape archaeology and settlement patterns
· Economy and weight systems in prehistoric Europe
· Peninsular Italy during the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age. Specific areas of interest: lake-side settlement systems; Final Bronze Age settlements and cult places in Etruria (Central Italy); specialized ceramic productions in Southern Italy during the Final Bronze Age (protogeometric ware)
· Archaeological application of statistics, mathematics and spatial analysis.
