Göttingen scientists receive Best Paper Award for publication

(pug) Before popular web sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube deliver new content, they usually make use of third-party services to improve the user experience. Researchers from the University of Göttingen and the University of California at Riverside have proposed a novel mechanism to improve how such services could be provided by existing devices on the Internet. Their publication received the Best Paper Award at the First ACM Conference on Information Centric Networking (ACM ICN 2014) in Paris.

The researchers around Prof. Dr. Xiaoming Fu at Göttingen University’s Institute of Computer Science made use of two new networking paradigms, Information Centric Networking (ICN) and Software Defined Networking (SDN). Both paradigms are expected to play a major role in the future development of the Internet. The work illustrates how the solution is able to support the ever increasing number of web users, recovering from failures quickly and improving the efficiency.

The First ACM Conference on ICN 2014 attracted more than 130 registered attendees from academia and industry. Out of 97 submitted papers, only 17 were accepted by the commission. The research was done as part of the projects “Green ICN” and “Simulation Science Center”. Further information is available online at www.net.informatik.uni-goettingen.de.
