Press release: “Colourful Gods” stay at Göttingen University till October
Nr. 161/2011 - 10.08.2011
Special exhibition at the Archaeological Institute extended by three months
(pug) The special exhibition entitled “Colourful Gods” being held at the Göttingen University’s Archaeological Institute has been extended by three months – now running till October 16, 2011. After causing a stir in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Madrid and Malibu and other cities, the travelling exhibit has been on view in the halls of the Cast Collection of Antique Sculptures in Nikolausberger Weg 15 since March of this year. It encompasses more than 30 colourful casts of famous marble sculptures spanning eras from the Archaic to Late Antiquity. These casts give impressive testimony to the fact that antique statues and temples were not white, but vibrant in colour. In addition, the exhibition features a demonstration workshop that provides insights in antique painting techniques and modern analytical methods.
The lecture on “Summing up an exhibition“ announced for Sunday, July 31, 2011, has thus become an interim event. Starting at 11:15 CET, the staff and students of the Archaeological Institute will report on the scientific findings and practical experiences their previous work in the show workshop has produced. Here, focus will be directed at treating "skin diseases", processing architectural parts, whitening silhouette warriors and recreating a lion.
As before, the special exhibition is open on Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 CECT and for groups by appointment. Guided tours of the exhibition are offered every second and fourth Sunday of the month. At 11:15 CET; on every third Sunday of the month, a Kid’s Programme starts at 14:30 CET.
