Sina Proske

Since April 2015, I have been working as a research assistant for German linguistics and sign language research at the Department of German Philology. From 2009 to 2012, I studied German philology and political science and finished my master's degree in linguistics in 2015.

My interest in the grammar of sign languages has started in a seminar held by Jana Hosemann during my bachelor's degree program, so I have put my focus on the field of sign language linguistics.
My master's thesis, which I have written together with Elisabeth Volk, is about the syntactic and information-structural aspects of wh-movement in German Sign Language. I am currently writing my dissertation about the sentence structure of German Sign Language. What fascinates me of sign languages is the clear difference to spoken languages because of the different modality, whereas linguistic analysis shows that both language groups still have a lot in common. In addition, I am also interested in issues dealing with the modality-specific features of sign languages.
