Since April 2014, Silke Hans holds a Professorship for Sociology with a Focus on Migration and Ethnicity at the Institute of Sociology. After completing her studies in Sociology and Political Science at the University of Potsdam, Germany, she obtained her doctoral degree (Dr. phil.) at Freie Universität Berlin in 2008. In her doctoral dissertation, she analyses long-term processes of incorporation of immigrants in Germany. Before her appointment to the University of Göttingen, Silke Hans was Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessor) for Sociology with a Focus on Migration at the Institute of Sociology of Freie Universität Berlin (since 2013), and before that, Lecturer and Research Assistant at the same institute. Her research interests include migration and immigrant incorporation, processes of transnationalization (in particular in the field of education), and quantitative research methods.
