Information about Bachelor and Master theses
Are you interested in writing your thesis at our chair? You are very welcome to join us, feel free to write to us!
1. Application and registration procedure.
Bachelor and Master theses can only be registered three times a year. The general requirements for registration, acceptance, submission and possible extension of a Bachelor's and Master's thesis can be found in the examination regulations. Basic information on the procedure can be found on the website of the examination office for economics.
The Chair of Organization and Corporate Development is independently responsible for the assignment procedure of Bachelor's and Master's theses. At the professorship a qualitative selection of all applicants takes place. In order to be able to carry out this objectively, all applicants* must fill out the institute's internal application form online.

2. Application Deadlines.
In order for all students to be treated equally, everyone must have submitted their application form online by a specific deadline by 12 noon at any given time. The application period usually starts one month before the respective deadline, or as soon as the topics are posted online. Later applications can only be considered if the semester capacity of the professorship has not yet been reached (but this is usually not the case).
Due date in summer semester:
Application by June 15 (registration of work within the four months until the next deadline).
Deadline in the winter semester:
Application by February 15 and October 15 (registration of work within the four months until the next deadline).
3. Topic identification and synopsis.
In addition to the topics offered here, you can also propose topics for a Bachelor's or Master's thesis yourself. The topic proposals should be independently developed and contributed and have a thematic relation to the research areas of the professorship. For this purpose, you can orientate yourself on the listed topics.
After a first information and discussion meeting with your supervisor, you should write an exposé of one to two pages. Make this available to your supervisor at least three working days before the next joint appointment in order to ensure appropriate preparation for the interview. The exposé is a prerequisite for the registration of your thesis. Therefore, it is recommended to start working on it as soon as possible after receiving the acceptance (see registration period).
The exposé should present the chosen topic, in particular the initial situation and problem, as well as the aim, methodology and structure of the thesis. The exposé will be discussed with the supervisor and serves to narrow down and define the topic. It has the sole purpose of assisting you in finding and narrowing down the topic and does not constitute an additional service.
4. On the technique of scientific work.
We have compiled the Recommendations for scientific work to provide you with the most important information on the topic of bachelor's and master's theses. You will also find answers to formal questions (citation instructions, etc.) and on the design of cover sheets for theses.
5. literature work versus empirical work.
Bachelor's and Master's theses can be either pure literature papers (purely analytical) or empirical papers. In any case, however, it is about the theoretically substantial scientific penetration of practically significant management problems. In this sense, on the one hand, the literature work should not be distant from practice. On the other hand, empirical work should not be purely descriptive case stories, but rather intensively researched case studies.
If you are interested in doing an empirical paper, be sure to talk to the supervising staff member about it in advance.
