From 5th-7th July, the Department of Philosophy of the University of Göttingen, sponsored by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, will host a conference on "Roads to Freedom? Unsolved Questions in Kant's Legal and Political Philosophy".

In contemporary debates in philosophy, jurisprudence and political sciences Immanuel Kant is always referred to as a liberal thinker. For instance, he is still the main author of reference when talking about the justification of human dignity as an innate right, liberal conceptions of international law as well as cosmopolitan peace theories. But is Kant really the liberal theoretician he is purported to be? This question will be the theme of this interdisciplinary conference. The main conference language is German, but presentations and discussions may be held in German or English
