The FUGATO-brain project
Coordinators : Prof. H. Simianer and Dr. F. Ytournel
Functional analyses provide more and more methods and results to be applied in animal breeding programs. The FUGATO-brain project should enable the development of a system for practical breeding schemes with three main purposes:
(a) verify and evaluate the relevance of the genomic information for breeding
programs, (b) provide an instrument to optimize the breeding schemes with inclusion of the molecular information, (c) enable the transfer of knowledge on improvement of the use of the new genetic tools to real conditions. The developments should allow the modelling of the breeding designs in the most important livestock species (cattle, pig, chicken, horse) and thus provide a direct and flexible use of the system.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research, Lohmann Tierzucht GmbH, the Förderverein Biotechnologieforschung e.V., the Verband des Oldenburger Pferdes e.V., the Verband der Züchter des Holsteiner Pferdes e.V., the Verband hannoverscher Warmblutzüchter, the Trakehner Verband and the Westfälisches Pferdestammbuch e.V..
