Larissa Topanotti
Education
Larissa has a Bachelor (2016) and a Masters (2020) in Forest Engineering from the Federal Technological University of Parana (UTFPR) and the Santa Catarina State University (UDESC), respectively. Larissa was also a Science Without Borders Scholarship recipient/holder (2013-2015), awarded by the federal government of Brazil, as an exchange student at Niagara College, Canada, where she graduated from the Ecosystem Restoration program (2015).Larissa has also been employed as a forester at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Curitibanos Campus, Santa Catarina, Brazil, working mostly with fieldwork in the Forestry Experimental Area, assessing professors with their practical classes, outreach, and research projects, conducting administrative tasks, and providing technical assistance to the University`s forestry projects.
Since her Bachelor's, Larissa has worked with different aspects of forest ecology and management, both in natural and planted forests in Brazil. In her Masters, she studied an underplanting system in Southern Brazil composed of two conifer species, focusing on the system`s growth and economic performance.
PhD Research Project
As part of the Forest Economics and Sustainable Land-use Planning department and supervised by Prof. Dr. Carola Paul, Larissa will analyze the economic utility of mixed stands of European beech with conifers compared to the pure stands of European beech, Norway spruce, and Douglas fir. Within the RTG 2300` framework, the main objective of her research is to acknowledge the effects of tree species composition and structural diversity on the expected level and stability of economic returns of such stands.Economic implications of species mixtures in European beech stands enriched with coniferous trees
