Fossile Lymexylidae – locations, descriptions, systematic review and classification of amber specimen

The world species of Lymexylidae are comparably few with about 70 in 11 genera. As far as known all species bore into wood as larvae and are so called fungal gardeners. They are placed in their own superfamily. Systematic relationship to other beetles and within the group is maybe due to their rarity not well understood. The knowledge about recent species is as sparse and distributed as the information on fossile records. In this project we first try to collect especially historic references and localise the specimen. Second we want to place those we get hold of in the existing systematic classification or revise, if necessary.
