Summary:
Traffic accidents and congestion cause serious problems for global transport systems. More than 1.2 million people die each year because of road accidents. Networked vehicles and autonomous vehicles are two promising technologies that can improve road safety and efficiency, but both still have inherent shortcomings.
This project proposes an innovative solution for cooperative, connected intelligent vehicles using vehicular communication technology and the sharing and collaboration of resources to address road transport challenges and improve road safety and efficiency.
An international, cross-sectoral and cross-disciplinary consortium consisting of world-leading scientific institutions, leading partners from industry, and politics will develop innovative technologies and applications, supporting novel vehicle communication and cooperative resource sharing.
With the partners' competent and complementary expertise and their extensive experience in international research collaboration, COSAFE promotes knowledge sharing, fosters research innovations, improves the potential of the participating researchers, and contributes to European competitiveness and leadership in the automotive sector. The existing research links among the partners will be strengthened, and new and sustainable collaborations will be developed to build up research in road safety systems.
