  • Prime truncations
    Abstract: The prime number 357686312646216567629137 is notable in some recreational math circles because of the unusual property that it remains prime successively on removing the left digit until there are no remaining digits. In this talk we will explore the more general phenomena of prime truncations of integers and irreducible truncations of polynomials, examining the distribution of these prime truncations. Joint work with Matilde Lalín.

  • p-adic non-abelian Hodge theory and its arithmetic application
    Abstract: p-adic Hodge theory compares different cohomology theories for varieties over p-adic fields. Without assuming any background in this area, this talk will give an introduction to p-adic non-abelian Hodge theory, which is about comparing different categories of coefficients for such cohomology theories, for example local systems and Higgs bundles. I will then discuss arithmetic applications.
